Brad's Biography

Brad Bailey is a freelance commercial drummer, percussionist, and accompanist based in New York, New York.

A versatile performer, Brad has experience performing in commercial, orchestral and jazz settings. As as commercial drummer, he has been apart of over 45 different musical theater productions including Avenue Q, Rent, Crazy for You, and Chicago, and has performed regularly with Pittsburgh Musical Theater.  He is currently the touring drummer with Legally Blonde the Musical. As a chamber and orchestral percussionist, Brad has performed with a number of orchestras and percussion ensembles on the East Coast.

 

In addition to being an active freelance performer, Brad has worked as an accompanist at Point Park University where he had the opportunity to collaborate with some of the top choreographers and dancers in the United States including Mark Burrell, Kiesha Lalama and Jason McDole among others. His time at Point Park has forged his very unique and powerful improvisational style which allows him to adapt quickly to performers on the stage. 

Brad is also an experienced educator. Coming from a family of music teachers, pedagogy has always been a part of his life. Brad started teaching music while still in high school and since then, he has had a number of students progress to a number of state and national level music festivals, and ensembles such as the Pittsburgh Steelers' Steeline. He currently operates a private studio in Manhattan, New York and is a former teaching artist and clinician for Sweetwater Center for the Arts in Sewickley, Pennsylvania. 

Brad earned a Bachelor's degree in Music Performance from the Jacob's School of Music at Indiana University and a Master's degree in Music Performance from the Mary Pappert School of Music at Duquesne University. He graduated summa cum laude from both institutions. His primary teachers are Jack DiIanni, Ed Stephan, Lisa Pegher, Kevin Bobo, John Soroka, John Tafoya, Chris Allen, Michael Spiro, Steve Houghton, Len Rogers and Thomas Wendt. Brad is a proud artist and endorser of Artifact Percussion sticks and mallets. He plays Pearl Drums, Sabian Cymbals and Remo Drumheads. 

Outside of music, Brad is an avid cyclist. When he's not in the studio, he can usually be found out on the road.
